Despite swirling speculation, Julián Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has firmly denied any official offers from Liverpool for the Argentine forward. Alvarez, who only joined Atlético Madrid in August 2024, remains “fully committed” to the Spanish club, even amidst a challenging start to the 2025–26 season.

A Stellar Debut Season Ignites Interest

Alvarez’s impressive debut campaign with Diego Simeone’s side saw him net
an outstanding 29 goals in 54 appearances for Atlético
Madrid. This prolific return surpassed the tallies of some of La Liga’s
brightest young talents, including Lamine Yamal and Vinícius Júnior,
naturally making him a coveted target for clubs seeking attacking
reinforcements.

Both Liverpool, the reigning English champions at the time of the
speculation, and Arsenal were reportedly keen on the former Manchester
City star. However, Hidalgo has unequivocally shut down these
rumours.

“There were no official offers from Liverpool to sign Julián last season,
and everything that has been said in this regard is false,” Alvarez’s
agent told Erem News.

Atlético’s Unwavering Stance

Hidalgo further clarified that Atlético Madrid had no intention of parting
ways with their star forward last summer, just months after he signed a
six-year contract with the club.

“Last summer there were no offers because Atlético de Madrid didn’t want
to sell the player, so negotiations didn’t take place,” Hidalgo stated.

Past Links and Present Commitments

Reports have also suggested that Alvarez was on Liverpool’s radar even
during his time at Manchester City, with a rumoured swap deal involving
Luis Díaz. However, these transfers never materialized, paving the way
for Alvarez’s move to the Spanish capital.

Fast forward to the current season, and Liverpool has since strengthened
their attack with the acquisitions of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitiké, and
Alexander Isak. Meanwhile, Alvarez has experienced a slower start to the
2025–26 campaign, netting just one goal in Los Colchoneros’ opening four
La Liga matches, which have yielded only five points.

Despite the team’s early struggles, Hidalgo emphasized Alvarez’s unwavering
loyalty.

“What is certain is that the player is fully committed to Atlético and is
focused solely on doing what is best for the club,” Hidalgo affirmed.

Injury Sidelines Star Forward

Adding to Atlético’s woes, Alvarez was unfortunately ruled out of their
Champions League clash against Liverpool on Wednesday, September 17, due
to injury, denying fans a highly anticipated reunion.
